Dear Members:
In Place of our monthly meeting of July, we will be sponsoring a forum on the Constitutional Convention. On Nov. 7, 2017 NYS voters will be faced with the question “Shall there be a convention to revise the constitution and amend the same? (NY Constitution, Article XIX, section 2). This comes up every 20 years.
To explain what this all means, we have invited two guest speakers: Professor Gerald Benjamin of SUNY New Paltz, who will present the argument for the Constitutional Convention and there will be (3) three union representatives presenting the opposition:
Ron Diaz, President of HVALF and BA of UA21
Mike Grubiak, NYSUT Mid Regional Political Organizer
Beth Soto, Executive Director HVALF
Questions are encouraged after the presentation.
It is imperative that voters go to the polls this November to support ALL of our local candidates and also have an understanding of the process and the consequences of a Constitutional Convention. Please share this with your family and friends.
When: 6:30 pm on Monday, July 10, 2017
